review rating 5  This is my favorite lil community store ever! One time I was making pies and I was out of nutmeg. The beautiful young lady behind the counter said "we don't have any right now." Instead of leaving it at that, she took a little baggy and gave me a little so I could finish making my pies! You just don't see that kind of service any more. EVERYONE who works there is awesome!

review rating 5  I have always received wonderful service each time I've been here. I also rented a storage unit behind the store and was so pleased with how easy it was to pay my monthly bill over the phone when I was out of town. Mike Mccoy (sp?) Is such a nice man to work with! I definitely recommend this place!

  • review rating 5  Great food, cold beer and plenty of room in the beer garden. This store/pub/restaurant has Friendly's taffeta and everything from soup to propane to outfit the local community. Don't forget the take and bake pizza, some of the best around. A must stop for a "not so out of the way spot".

    thumb Jeff Prestmo

review rating 5  Stopped and ate here yesterday- and myself and my teen boys LOVED it! The store is adorable and has all the staple essentials for locals. Beer on tap, 4 booths for lounging, books for reading on the shelves, antique treasures, excellent burgers (and we are connoisseurs...????) and the service was fantastic! We are lifers now...way to go BLG!

review rating 5  Friendly neighborhood one stop shop. Obviously more expensive than bigger stores in town, but the location is convenient if you're on Big Lake and the people are really friendly. Easy go to if you need one or two items and don't want to drive all the way in to town.

  •   Drove out to Big Lake for a burger, after reading the reviews on Yelp.  I was totally disappointed! The place is not handicap accessible.  Ordered a regular burger with fries and considered the burger totally over-priced, and  very, very mediocre, and the fries were greasy, and half done.  What a waste of time, and gas!

    thumb X X.

What an awesome little hidden gem. If you haven't had a burger from here you haven't lived. This is hands down one of the best burgers around. The service is super friendly and surprisingly they have two nice seating areas plus outdoor seating to relax and enjoy your meal.

    thumb C H.

THE historical big lake grocery! Very proud to be the first review here.

This is exactly as it seems a small store right on your way to big lake where you know you will always be greeted with a smile and a good laugh.

    thumb Trevor D.

The staff here is friendly and they have you're basics. It's a mom and pop type of store. It covers most emergency items you would need and then some stuff you don't need but buy anyway. The biggest thing is it will save you a trip into town but it will cost you just as much going in or more.

    thumb Glenn S.
  •   Awesome place BUT way understaffed for what they offer. 1 cashier is expected to make espresso, serve food, answer phone and ring customers up, which in return results in horrible customer service.

    thumb Brittney S.

Nice little local store. Most of the basics you would need at last minute. They have about 5-6 beers on tap plus a decent beer selection. We just tried their burgers and let me say they are good. I my kids like the chicken strips they have. All they need now is a pizza oven..

    thumb Mitch R.

This place is awesome! From the outside, you wouldn't know that they serve food. It just looks like a little corner mart. The menu has a great selection (American, Mexican, and breakfast). The food is good and reasonably priced. Check out their specials by the front door - all specials have been good so far. The cordon bleu sandwich is good!

    thumb John L.

Cute dinner / convenient store. Burgers. Fries, and service outstanding. Dog friendly. Will be back.

  •   Great community location! As a grocery store, they've got all the necessities. Great selection of beer and cider for there or to take in a growler. They also have a small restaurant there too where you can order at the counter. Food is delicious! The chicken strips are seriously so great, and their new breakfast menu is even better. Call ahead and they'll have breakfast waiting for you to grab and go on your way out of Big Lake. In the summer, they have a patio and beer garden. They even do events like beer tastings with breweries! They've got a great little sitting area with TVs and the local paper. Everyone's nice too. Great spot!

This was my first visit to the BLG for a burger, I'd seen that they had started serving food but never thought stopping to eat at a grocery store. Man was I surprised! The store itself is an old style country store; small and sort of crowded with a fairly wide selection of stuff for the house and of course groceries. The food menu is not large but covers the basics; burgers, sandwiches, salads and a selection of wine and on-tap beers.
I ordered their 'Old Fashioned' cheeseburger with onion rings and a soda which totaled up to $12.20.  The burger is a 1/3 lb. patty with everything on it and it is fantastic. I can't think of anywhere in the Valley that could top it.
The onion rings were, hands down, the best I've had in Skagit Valley! Lightly battered and crisp, not greasy and limp like most places these days and the portion was just the right size.
I WILL be back, this little place is now on the top of my list!

I live in Seattle, am surrounded by tons of trendy restaurants, and I still rather eat here at Big Lake Grocery than anywhere else. Their food is mindblowing. It's also nice to pick up convenience store fare before hitting the road or hiking trips. The service has always been super friendly too. My favorite is the Mac and cheese hamburger, while my husband adores their biscuits and gravy. You ought to get a side of fries with whatever you order because those things are also addictive.
